Cocoa Smoothie: A Sweet Innocent Delight

 

This week’s recipe is a real delight: a healthy cocoa smoothie to be savoured any time you crave sugary cake or chocolate. Not only does it taste fantastic and fix your sugar-fix, it also takes a mere 5 minutes to make.

Although it is not a recipe that I’ve created, I named it Cocoa Heaven because it reminds me of tropical holidays and white sandy beaches.

Preparing and drinking it puts me in a good mood, especially on those rainy autumn days when we all feel a little bit down. Most of the time I have it as a dessert, in the afternoon, which gives me an extra energy boost for the rest of the day, too.

 

A Mindfulness Approach

 

I like to take a 10 minute break from everything that I’m doing to fully enjoy this vitamin cocktail. I try to breathe calmly,  to detach myself from any source of mental noise and to focus my awareness on the taste. Any time a though comes in, I simply notice it and then return my attention to the smoothie.

 

Other times I feel the urge to escape on one of the white beaches this smoothie reminds me of. So I just sit comfortably, have a sip and picture myself walking bare foot along the shore.

I try to listen mentally to the voice of the ocean and to remain as present as possible. It is a kind of energising day dreaming, only I don’t loose myself to the dream, I control it, I recharge.
Linking meditation to my Cocoa Heaven enhances my chances to meditate often. You can do it with any other healthy dish you love. Creating this pattern helps you to not only practice more but also to eat slowly and peacefully which is an important ingredient of a healthy lifestyle.

Cocoa Heaven Ingredients

  • 1 avocado
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 spoon raw cacao powder
  • 1 spoon coconut oil
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 spoon chia seeds

Strawberries: Packed with vitamins, fibre, and particularly high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. They are among the top 20 fruits with high antioxidant capacity and are a good source of manganese, as well as potassium.

Cocoa: Raw cacao powder has 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries. It is the highest plant-based source of iron around. Full of magnesium for a healthy heart and brain, raw cacao powder has more calcium than cow’s milk. This amazing substance is also a natural mood elevator and anti-depressant.
