When Fear Is in Overdrive

The fear is our worst enemy.  Why? Because…

  • Fear is what keeps us in victim mode.
  • Fear is what feeds our deepest insecurities.
  • Fear is what pumps up our ego to feel bigger and scarier than our enemy.
  • Fear is the source of our worst behaviour.
  • Fear transforms us into our worst self.

Until it doesn’t …

When Fear Strikes, STOP, BREATHE and SMILE!

I mean that literally. Stop whatever you are doing and just breathe. If you are in a meeting, excuse yourself and walk out, go the toilet where you can be alone and breathe. Look in the mirror and smile.

When fear strikes, pay attention to your breathing and you will notice that you are holding your breath. Biologically that’s the worst you can do.

Lack of oxygen makes your brain go into panic mode. The rush of adrenaline necessary to survive keeps you so alert that you can only focus on staying safe. Feeling unsafe makes you feel like a victim. Feeling a victim makes you react in the worst of ways.

When in victim mode, your brain is focused on keeping you safe.

Rationality is gone.
Everything is happening to you.
You loose control of the situation.
Your power is lost.

It’s only going downhill from there.

Breathe Is The Fuel

When you stop to breathe, you give the brain the fuel it needs to keep you calm and in control, you regain your power. When you regain your power, you are no longer in victim mode. Things are no longer happening to you.

You can control the outcome.
You have choices.
When you have choices you choose from love, not from fear.
When you choose from love, you have the clarity to make the best choice for you.
You ensure the best outcome.

One of the most important and powerful lessons one can learn is to recognise and acknowledge when in victim mode, driven by fear.

When that happens, just smile and pat yourself on the back because that is an achievement worth being proud of. Once that step is mastered, half the battle is won because fear’s worst fear is to be looked in the face with a smile and a calm breath.

Regain your power … STOP … BREATHE … SMILE … Simples 😉

Did you realise what I just did there? … Yes, I indeed tricked you into a form of meditation ☺ It’s quite handy and you can practice it any time you feel the fear takes over.
