The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein
Two questions for you as the first step in learning how to manage fear:
Are you afraid or you feel afraid?
Does making this difference matter?
I believe it does and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) shows that by making that differentiation eases the process of mastering the release of fear.
The key is awareness. Surprised? Probably not! Being aware of what we feel, makes it easier to isolate that feeling and deal with it promptly. Disassociating our being from our feelings, makes it easier to deal with that feeling, to understand and to heal it.
Are you good at recognising fear?
Are you good at healing your negative feelings?
Gabrielle Bernstein takes on this topic in her book The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear into Faith and offers you stories to help you recognise fears and exercises to transform them.
Learning How To Manage Fear Is An Awareness Practice
Is there anything new in her book? Most probably not; it pretty much depends on how much personal development work you’ve done so far, but irrespective of that, it is still a good reminder of how debilitating fear is, so definitely worth a read/listen.
Her personal stories are helpful to maybe identify situations where fear is/was present, but you are not necessarily aware of.
I appreciate deeply when people are brave enough to share their personal stories with the world. That’s true bravery and I find it inspiring, because another negative feeling that goes hand in hand with fear is shame. Shame for all the situations when, with hindsight, we know we could’ve behaved/chosen better. The keyword here is “hindsight”, but that’s the topic of a different post.
Give it a go and please share with us your opinion, ideally judgment free opinion, of course. But you know that already don’t you?
